Walk Weekend 3rd 4th October

                                                HELMSLEY

                                          North York Moors

Saturday 4th promised winds of up to 60 mph and showers. we split into a "C" and two "B" walks . The wind materialised but apart from a brief shower the skies were clear and sunny
The "B" walk split into 2 groups and followed the same route, the first led by Roger Lewis went in a

clockwise direction and the second led by John Jones went anticlockwise.

The route started in the delightful village

of Hutton-le-Hole proceeded north across the

moors then dropping steeply down into

Rosedale.

Here lunch was taken at a conveniently sited hotel with a view. Then we followed Rosedale in a south easterly direction for several miles.....
....before climbing back on o the moor and

heading west into the gale back to Hutton

pictures John Hodgson, Colin Jacobs and Diana Young

"C" walk a linear walk led by Mike Higgins started at Sutton bank and followed the

Cleveland way back to Helmsley with the wind at their backs ....

...visiting Revaulx Abbey on the way.

We stayed in the Black Swan Hotel on the square in Helmsley, where we had the garden Room

as our exclusive restaurant. The food was excellent throughout our stay.....

...especially breakfast although complaints

were heard about the size of the salmon

portions

On Sunday everyone did the same walk a circular from Sutton Bank....
......with fine views over the vale of York

....again splitting into two groups  with Roger and John leading identical clockwise and anticlockwise circuits...
...passing a tranquil lake at the base of the

bank before...

...steeply ascending  the bank and passing the

Gliding club.
