"A" walkers John and Martine Power report
![]() |
Despite travelling through quite thick fog from Southport we arrived in Llangollen in glorious sunshine and set off for our 14 mile walk across the Vale of Llangollen. We took the directionof Valle Crucis Abbey but headed along the Offas Dyke Path towards Worlds End, hoping to return via the abbey. (There was nothing at worlds End when we arrived!!!!!!!!). The wild life was rather interesting though, with grey squirrels leaping about, a buzzard circling overhead and a large peacock sitting on the roof of a nearby house. (nearly as exciting as seeing a large coloured parrot sitting on a grain silo on the previous walk.) |
As we walked the scenery in the sunshine was spectacular. There were white mists hanging in the valleys and the colours of the trees matched anything you would expect to see in New England. After lunch on the edge of Llandegla Forest we headed back down to Llangollen on the Clywdian Path in plenty of time for some liquid refreshment.

Everyone agreed that you couldn't have asked for better weather for such a fine walk.
"C " Walk. by Diana Young, walk leader.
After having a coffee in Llangollen, the ‘C’
group set out on their walk by climbing up to the Castell Dinas Bran where we
had some great views over the surrounding countryside, although it was still a
little misty following the earlier fog. We then made our way down to the Offa’s
Dyke path
which we followed for a couple of miles before turning left to make our way down
through woodland and eventually arriving at Valle Crucis Abbey. This was the
ideal lunch stop. After lunch we made our way part way up Velvet Hill and then
followed the contours of the hill around and this eventually brought down to the
main road.
We walked along here in the direction of Rhewl for about half a mile before
turning left by the church to go down to the Horseshoe Falls. From here we made
our way back along the canal towpath to Llangollen.
