Sunday 19th September 2021 - Staveley, South Lakes

I am delighted to inform you that we are organizing walks again and hope you will join us.. As you will be aware masks are no longer mandatory but some people may choose to wear a mask on the coach. We have booked a 50 seater coach so there will be plenty of room for people to spread out. We do not know how many people will come so we are offering two walks.

This month our walks are based on Staveley in the Southern Lakes. The coach will leave school as usual at 8.00 am prompt and there will be a toilet stop at Burton in Kendal services. Both walks finish in Staveley where we will have refreshments before leaving at about 4.30 to get back to Formby at 6.30pm. Boots are essential on all walks, also please take notice, when walking, of the advice on likely ground conditions from the individual leaders.

The cost of travel will be £16.00 for members, £18.00 for non-members, £7.00 for Leaders, £7.00 for children and students in full time education. Please make your cheque payable to Range Walking Club and ensure it is signed as it is inconvenient for the Treasurer to chase up such omissions.

Please book by email and pay online or send in your return to the Treasurer Monica Sealey before 11th September; places will be booked on the coach by the treasurer on a first come first served basis.

Cancellations: if you need to cancel or make a late booking, please contact the Treasurer on 0781 2423307 (preferably by text) or by email monicatuk@yahoo.co.uk who will endeavour to substitute your booking from the waiting list.  If you cancel after 11th September and it is not possible to fill your place on the coach, regrettably, we will not be able to give you a refund as coaches will have been booked on initial returns.

‘B’
Distance: 9.8 miles
Ascent: 2,100 ft
Leaders:
Edwina Roberts
John Roberts

This is a steady linear walk to ease our creaking joints back into action starting when we drop off at the bus stop for Sizergh castle on the A590.
We head north into the grounds and out to pass Holeslack farm on our way to Helsingham Church and from there to Scout Scar whilst enjoying the splendid panoramic views over the Lyth valley and the mountains beyond.
We continue the theme along Cunswick Scar and drop to cross Crook Road before fiddling our way past old farms at Bank End, Moss Side to each Rather Heath.
Picking up Ashes Lane we follow the paths into Staveley.

‘C’ Walk
Distance: 7.7 miles
Ascent: 1250 ft
Leaders:
Keith Jacques
Maureen Jacques

Weather permitting, this walk gives amazing views over the beautiful countryside.
Leaving Staveley we follow the direction of the river Kent for a while before entering Beckmickle Ing.
We then make our way to Potter Fell where we pass by Potter Tarn and Gurnal Dubs before ascending in the direction of Brunt Knott with a waterfall to admire en route.
This is a steady but not strenuous climb and we will have ample time to stop frequently and admire the surrounding scenery.
After lunch it's more or less downhill all the way (with just an odd small undulation!) as we follow a picturesque route back to the coach. There are around a dozen stiles.
