Sunday 21st November 2021 - Chipping, Lancs

This month our walks are based in South Cumbria exploring the fells and crags of Newbiggin and Hutton Roof. The coach will leave school as usual at 8.00 am prompt and there will be a toilet stop at Burton in Kendal services. Both walks finish in Holme where we will have refreshments before leaving at about 4.30 to get back to Formby at 6.30pm. Boots are essential on all walks, also please take notice, when walking, of the advice on likely ground conditions from the individual leaders.

As you will be aware masks are no longer mandatory but some people may choose to wear a mask on the coach. We have booked a 50 seater coach so there will be plenty of room for people to spread out.

The cost of travel will be £16.00 for members, £18.00 for non-members, £7.00 for Leaders, £7.00 for children and students in full time education. Please make your cheque payable to Range Walking Club and ensure it is signed as it is inconvenient for the Treasurer to chase up such omissions.

Please book by email and pay online or send in your return to the Treasurer Monica Sealey before 9th October; places will be booked on the coach by the treasurer on a first come first served basis.

Cancellations: if you need to cancel or make a late booking, please contact the Treasurer on 0781 2423307 (preferably by text) or by email monicatuk@yahoo.co.uk who will endeavour to substitute your booking from the waiting list.  If you cancel after 14th November and it is not possible to fill your place on the coach, regrettably, we will not be able to give you a refund as coaches will have been booked on initial returns.

Forget Wainwright bagging and Munro bagging, this is a walk for Farm bagging enthusiasts.
From Chipping we climb north passing through Saddle End Farm to the foot of Burnslack Fell.
Following undulating farm roads and rugged tracks we will move on to Lickhurst Farm and thence north to Dinkling Green Farm.

Our route then takes us through a number of ex-farm conversions and the still operational Greenlands Farm.
From there we will cross several fields to arrive back in Chipping via Town End.
Unless it is unusually hot and dry in the weeks preceding the walk, expect it to be very wet and probably very muddy underfoot.

‘C’ Walk

Ascent: 770 ft

This is a very pleasant and varied walk with good views of the surrounding hills.
We walk out of Chipping past the furniture factory, the old mill and mill pond before climbing to Birchen Lee.
From there we follow a track to Park Gate and then through fields to Park Style where we take a track to Lickhurst Farm.

After Lickhurst Farm we cross a footbridge and climb towards Dinkling Green Farm with views opening out of Fair Oak Fell and the Hodder Valley.
We follow a quiet farm road to an old red telephone box, a local landmark!!

Leaving the road we follow a path down to the ford at Lower Greystoneley and then to Knott Barn.
Passing an old Lime Kiln we walk back to Chipping along tracks and through fields.
