Sunday 20th February 2022 - Ellesmere, Shropshire

This month our walks are based in Ellesmere in Shropshire. The coach will leave school as usual at 8.00 am prompt and there will be a toilet stop at Burton on the way. Both walks finish in Ellesmere where we will have refreshments before leaving at 5.00 to get back to Formby at approximateley 7.00pm. Boots are essential on both walks, also please take notice, when walking, of the advice on likely ground conditions from the individual leaders.

The cost of travel will be £16.00 for members, £18.00 for non-members, £7.00 for Leaders, £7.00 for children and students in full time education. Please make your cheque payable to Range Walking Club and ensure it is signed as it is inconvenient for the Treasurer to chase up such omissions.

Please book by email and pay online or send in your return to the Treasurer Monica Sealey before 10th February; places will be booked on the coach by the treasurer on a first come first served basis.

Cancellations: if you need to cancel or make a late booking, please contact the Treasurer on 0781 2423307 (preferably by text) or by email monicatuk@yahoo.co.uk who will endeavour to substitute your booking from the waiting list.  If you cancel after 14th November and it is not possible to fill your place on the coach, regrettably, we will not be able to give you a refund as coaches will have been booked on initial returns.

‘B’ Walk
Distance: 9.8 miles
Ascent: 490 ft
Leaders:
John Roberts

The walk starts from the A495 at Smithy farm south west of Bronington and we head initially across fields to the historic village of Hamner.
Turning south we pass Hamner Mere and skirt the back of Bettisfield Park before recrossing theA495 at Little Hall to reach Bettisfield itself where we join the Shropshire Union Canal.
From a gently undulating walk in the first half we now glide along the towpath to Ellesmere passing Cole Mere and Blake Mere and their bird life on the way.

‘C’ Walk
Distance: 8 miles
Ascent: 450 ft
Leaders:
Anne Belcher
Denise Nunn

This is a delightful walk starting and finishing at the Mere in Ellesmere.
From the Mere we walk along the Shropshire Union Canal in a SE direction passing Blake Mere on the way to Cole Mere.
After a lunch stop in Yell Wood we follow the canal again and then head north along quiet county lanes to the pretty village of Welshampton.
After the village we follow footpaths over moorland and fields in a westerly direction back to the Mere.
As we walk along the lakeside path back to Ellesmere we pass a sculpture park and Cremone Gardens.
The walk has a dozen kissing gates but no styles!!
