Our walks this month are based on Staveley in the Southern Lakes. The coach will leave school as usual at 8.00 am prompt and there will be a toilet stop at Burton in Kendal services. Boots are essential on all walks, also please take notice, when walking, of the advice on likely ground conditions from the individual leaders.

This year’s Hotpot will be at The Eagle and Child in Staveley. Assuming that all parties have returned, meals will be served from around 17.00 hours. We will depart after the hot pot meal at approximately 6.30pm arriving back in Formby about 8.30pm.

The cost of travel will be £16.00 for members, £18.00 for non-members, £7.00 for Leaders, £7.00 for children and students in full time education. Please make your cheque payable to Range Walking Club and ensure it is signed as it is inconvenient for the Treasurer to chase up such omissions.

Cancellations: if you need to cancel or make a late booking, please contact the Treasurer on 01704 809287 (preferably by text) or by email monicatuk@yahoo.co.uk who will endeavour to substitute your booking from the waiting list.  If you cancel after 10th October and it is not possible to fill your place on the coach, regrettably, we will not be able to give you a refund as coaches will have been booked on initial returns.

This walk takes us to the west of Staveley, over Reston Scar.
Then we head north, via Mickle Moss and on to Whiteside End.
We will have our lunch stop at Kentmere Hall, with its 13th century tower.
Then we will pick up the path which takes us into Kentmere village, before walking along the picturesque Kentmere Valley.
Passing by the Kentmere pottery workshop (where there was once a mill dating back to the 13th Century).
We then head to Browfoot and back to Staveley.
This walk takes us though some pretty scenery and passes a variety of historic sites.

‘B’ Walk
Distance: 9 miles
Ascent: 1000 ft
Leaders:
Louise Pimm
Liz Bellman

We head out of Staveley in an easterly direction through fields and lanes before turning north to begin the steady climb of the day.
This takes us past the waterfall at Side House continuing up onto the open fells. Potter Tarn and the more remote Gurnal Dubs add a dash of water to the landscape.
There are good views to the south from here, our high point of the walk.
We follow tracks to Birk Rigg where we turn south to descend through fields & farms, finally arriving at Bowston where we cross the river Kent.
We return to Staveley along the Dales Way, following the south bank of the river, water levels permitting.
There are a number of styles, some up to 6 steps and plenty of mud to boot. (December flood damage is to be seen, the bridge in Staveley is closed because of potential collapse).

‘C’ Walk
Distance: 7.7 miles
Ascent: 1250 ft
Leaders:
Keith Jacques
Maureen Jacques

Weather permitting, this walk gives amazing views over the beautiful countryside.
Leaving Staveley we follow the direction of the river Kent for a while before entering Beckmickle Ing.
We then make our way to Potter Fell where we pass by Potter Tarn and Gurnal Dubs before ascending in the direction of Brunt Knott with a waterfall to admire en route.
This is a steady but not strenuous climb and we will have ample time to stop frequently and admire the surrounding scenery.
After lunch it's more or less downhill all the way (with just an odd small undulation!) as we follow a picturesque route back to the coach.
