Sunday 15th September 2018 - Clapham, Yorkshire Dales

This month our walks are based on Clapham, North Yorkshire.   The coach will leave school as usual at 8.00 am prompt and travel direct to Clapham where there are toilets and where all the walks start and finish. Boots are essential on all walks.  After enjoying refreshments in Clapham we will depart at 5.30pm and should be back in Formby about 7.30pm.

The cost of travel will be £14.00 for members, £17.00 for non-members and £5.00 for Leaders, children and students in full time education. Please note the changed coach fare. Please make your cheque payable to Range Walking Club and ensure it is signed as it is inconvenient for the Treasurer to chase up such omissions.

Please book by email and pay online or send in your return to the Treasurer Monica Sealey before 6th September; places will be booked on the coach by the treasurer on a first come first served basis.

Cancellations: if you need to cancel or make a late booking, please contact the Treasurer on 01704 809287 or by email monicatuk@yahoo.co.uk who will endeavour to substitute your booking from the waiting list.  If you cancel after 6th September and it is not possible to fill your place on the coach, regrettably, we will not be able to give you a refund as coaches will have been booked on initial returns.

A grand day out on the finest of The Three Peaks Walk, Ingleborough.
From Clapham we follow the Beck through the grounds of Ingleborough Hall, past a lake, Ingleborough Cave and Beck Head, the resurgence of Fell Beck (there is a small charge for access so bring some change).
A short ascent of Trow Gill emerges on a grassy plateau and we are soon at Gaping Gill (the water fall is twice the height of Niagara Falls!). A good spot for coffee.
Refreshed we head for Ingleborough’s 2380ft summit.
Our route down is on the edge of Simon Fell, crossing the limestone plateau, with a short visit to the Norber Erratics, before joining a good track back to Clapham.

This circular walk takes us through some of the scenic limestone pavement, which surrounds the village of Clapham.
We walk out of the village in a northerly direction and head towards Ingleborough cave.
We pass the entrance, then head up and over Long Scar, along the Pennine Bridleway.
At Sulber Gate, we pick up a (sometimes indistinct) path, which takes us across the limestone pavement and along the edge of Moughton Scars.
From here, we get great views of the surrounding countryside.
We then begin a pleasant descent to Austwick Beck.
After crossing the beck, we pick up a well-made path and head towards the Pennine Bridleway, which will take us back into Clapham.
If time allows, we can make a slight detour and visit the Norber Erratics.
Our journey back into Clapham takes us through the grounds of Ingleborough Hall and the tunnels.

Join us for THE most stunningly beautiful and varied walk in and around Clapham the 'Doorway to the Yorkshire Dales'.
We pass waterfalls and lakes as we walk through woodland and across moorland and limestone pavement, in the shadows of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.
The views of Crummack Dale are stunning as we luncheon on top of Long Scar.
On our return journey, we see the Norber boulders and Austwick Village, with an option to stop off at the Game Cock pub, only open after 3 pm.
We then walk back the remaining 2 miles to Clapham via fields and 7 stiles, which keeps our road walking to a minimum.
Many 'Points’ of Interest' crammed into one spectacular walk.
However, all of this will cost you!
There is a £1.00 charge to access Ingleborough Estate Nature Trail but in our opinion it's well worth the cost and it does conserve your energy as you gorge walk through Trow Gill.
On arrival back in Clapham refreshments are available at the Croft café or the New Inn.

‘C’ Walk
Distance: 7 miles
Ascent: 650 ft

A gentle start to our walk takes us over stiles and farmland in a south easterly direction to Austwick and on to the outskirts of Feizor.
Here we turn north and climb over a small hill to secure distant views of the three peaks before descending to the small hamlet of Wharfe.
Next, climbing steadily, we continue along a narrow walled track under White Stone to reach a ford.
After crossing the stream we turn to the south-west and head towards Clapham by contouring around the stony outcrop of Nappa Scars and finishing along the Thwaite Lane track.
