We leave Coniston along the A593 before heading inland to Heathwaite.
Shortly after we head north to join the Walna Scar Road, which we follow in a south-westerly direction.
After passing beneath Nettle Crag, we swing north and commence the ascent of Goat’s Hawse (2,130 feet), which takes us past Goat’s Water, over which looms Dow Crag.
From Goat’s Hawse we climb to The Old Man of Coniston (2,634 feet), the highest point of the day.
Weather permitting, the summit should provide stunning views of the surrounding fells and Coniston Water.
The descent to Coniston will take us past Low Water and Miners Bridge.

‘B’ Walk
Distance: 9 miles
Ascent: 700 ft
Leaders:
Liz Bellman
Louise Pimm

This is a linear walk to Coniston which starts at Blawith.
After a short road walk we turn onto a quiet lane and ascend Beacon Fell to Beacon Tarn, an unfrequented mini lake.
From there we join the Cumbria Way as we cross Torver Common down to meet Coniston Lake.
We then follow lakeside paths which afford fine views all along the lake to Coniston.

‘C’ Walk
Distance: 8 miles
Ascent: 880 ft
Leaders:
Anne Belcher
Keith Jacques

This is a walk of great variety which contrasts the quiet mixed woods of Yewdale and the ever popular Tarn Hows.
Rising from Coniston through woods interspersed with openness we have tremendous views looking back over Coniston Water and westwards to Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam.
After circling Tarn Hows we descend by Tom Gill to Yew Tree Farm with its famous spinning gallery.
The walk continues around Yew Tree Tarn.
The row of yew trees in front of High Yewdale Farm marks the start of the return to Coniston via Black Guards following the direction of Yewdale Beck.
