Sunday 20th January 2019 - Conway, North Wales

This month our walks are in North Wales based on Conway.  The coach will leave school as usual at 8.00 am prompt and will have a booting up stop on the way to the start of the walks. Boots are essential on all walks.   We will depart at 5.00pm arriving back in Formby about 7.00pm.  

The cost of travel will be £14.00 for members, £17.00 for non-members and £5.00 for Leaders, children and students in full time education. Please note the changed coach fare. Please make your cheque payable to Range Walking Club and ensure it is signed as it is inconvenient for the Treasurer to chase up such omissions.

Please book by email and pay online or send in your return to the Treasurer Monica Sealey before 10th January; places will be booked on the coach by the treasurer on a first come first served basis.

Cancellations: if you need to cancel or make a late booking, please contact the Treasurer on 01704 809287 or by email monicatuk@yahoo.co.uk who will endeavour to substitute your booking from the waiting list.  If you cancel after 4th October and it is not possible to fill your place on the coach, regrettably, we will not be able to give you a refund as coaches will have been booked on initial returns.

Please note:  Although we have welcomed had several new members so far this season unfortunately the number of longstanding walkers has fallen dramatically and thus the coach numbers have fallen.  This has obviously meant losing money on the coach each month, very sadly to the point, that if the numbers do not pick up the club will be unable to continue beyond this season .

‘B+’ Walk Distance: 10.5 miles Ascent: 1,600 ft Leaders: John Roberts Edwina Roberts	Llanfairfechan to Conwy This linear walk utilising both the North Wales Path and the Wales Coast Path starts opposite the Bryn-y-Neuadd Hospital at the west end of Llanfairfechan. We walk up to join the North Wales path at Nant-y -felin then follow the afon before zigzagging uphill towards the Costal Path on Penmaen Mawr. The costal path soon reaches the high point of the walk at 1250 feet where there is a fine Bronze Age ‘Druids” stone circle on Cefn Coch and then descends towards Foel Lus which we contour around before dropping into Dwygyfylchi. Our final climb of the day up the Sychnant pass takes us up onto Conwy Mountain and our final descent towards the castle. This is a pleasant walk with the initial climb affording fine views of Anglesey and then as we follow the ridges east gazing towards the Great Orme.
‘B’ Walk Distance: 9 miles Ascent: 1600 ft Leaders: David Wake Gill Hickmott	A circular walk starting south up the Conwy estuary to Gorse Hill, Iolyn Caravan Park and Baclaw where we turn west passing through Henryd onto Plas Tirion. Here we turn north with Craigyfed-wen to the West above us and on to Echo Rock where we join the North Wales Path. The path soon turns East and tracks along the southern side of Conwy Mountain and then back into Conwy.
‘C’ Walk Distance: 8 miles Ascent: 1300 ft Leaders: Sarah Broad Liz Bellman	This is a circular walk with many points of interest...including Britain's Smallest House and other surprises! We leave the picture postcard village of Conwy, heading along a seafront path towards the Quay.  After continuing along this path and crossing a railway footbridge, we head up into the woods and this is where the climbing begins.  We follow a path steadily upwards, and this gets the majority of the climbing out of the way before lunch. It is a little steep at times but we guarantee that the view at the top makes it all worthwhile (weather permitting of course!) We then walk along the top of Conwy mountain, taking in the iron age settlements.  The path then drops down and we follow the path, walking in a valley.  Following on from this, there is a little bit of road walking, heading through the hamlet of Groesfford.  We then continue a holiday park, with a small climb, towards the wooded area outside of Conwy. We continue to follow the path which brings us back into Conwy.   This walk takes in a variety of terrains and was muddy in places so we would recommend boots.
