Sunday 25th June 2017 - Bethesda, North Wales

This month our walks are in Snowdonia.  The coach will leave school as usual at 8.00 am prompt and travel to.Abergwyngregyn where the C and B+ walks start. There is a café and toilet here and it is a good opportunity for us all to get booted up etc. Boots are essential on all walks.  Ten minutes further on the B and A walkers can have a toilet stop at the A5 services before continuing to Bethesda where the B walkers alight. The A walkers will remain on the coach and travel to Llyn Ogwen.

All walks finish in Bethesda the coach should be at the rugby ground/medical centre.  We have arranged for the Star Café to stay open and there are also pubs nearby.  We depart Bethesda at 5.30 and we should be back in Formby about 7.30.

The cost of travel will be £10.00 for members, £13.00 for non-members and £5.00 for Leaders, children and students in full time education. Please make your cheque payable to Range Walking Club and ensure it is signed as it is inconvenient for the Treasurer to chase up such omissions.

Please send in your return to the Treasurer Monica Sealey before 15th June; places will be booked on the coach by the treasurer on a first come first served basis.

Cancellations: if you need to cancel or make a late booking, please contact the Treasurer on 01704 809287 or by email monicatuk@yahoo.co.uk who will endeavour to substitute your booking from the waiting list.  If you cancel after 11th May and it is not possible to fill your place on the coach, regrettably, we will not be able to give you a refund as coaches will have been booked on initial returns.

Club AGM Monday 17th July at Range High School:  Membership cards for next season will be issued from 7pm onwards and the meeting will commence at 7.30pm.  Please make a note of the date, hopefully all walkers will be able to attend.

‘A’ Walk Distance: 11 miles Ascent: 3200 ft Leaders: Gordon Spence John Hughes	A real treat with three peaks higher than any in England!  The exact details of the walk will be finalised nearer the time so read the write-up on the coach carefully please. Starting at the east end of Llyn Ogwen we follow a good path to Flynnon Lloer and ascend the ridge to Pen yr Ole Wen. This is the start of a fantastic walk on the wide ridge of the high Carnedds which includes some boulder walking. Descent is on another ridge to Yr Elen and Foel Ganol, with expansive views to the coast, followed by a leisurely walk to the pub.
‘B+’ Walk Distance: 12 miles Ascent: 1600 ft Leaders: Claire Lyons Margaret Pegg	This is a linear walk, which starts at Abergwyngregyn. We don’t take the usual direct route, up to Aber falls, but instead we go eastward, travelling through woodland and farmland and taking in the views over Conwy Bay. Eventually, we arrive at the base of the spectacular Aber Falls. Picking up the North Wales Path we walk around the hills overlooking the Welsh coastline before walking inland again via some nice paths to the town of Bethesda. This is a very pleasant walk through glorious scenery, on (mostly) well - made paths, with plenty to see in the way of good views, fauna and flora.
‘B’ Walk Distance: 8 miles Ascent: 1300 ft Leaders: David Willis David Wake	This is a slightly easier-than-normal ‘B’ walk (less than eight miles), which (usual weather proviso) falls into the category of ‘delightful’.  All the hard work comes at the beginning as we climb steadily from the centre of Bethesda via road and open field to skirt Moel Fabon.  We drop down to reach the North Wales Path at the foot of Moel Wnion, with great views of Anglesey and the surrounding area.  Continuing along nearly all well-surfaced lanes, farm tracks and country roads, we re-enter Bethesda  along an old railway track( complete with tunnel).
‘C’ Walk Distance: 8 miles Ascent: 850 ft Leaders: Denise Nunn Liz Bellman	Starting at Abergwyngregyn we will begin with a coffee and toilet stop at a cafe before we pass under the A55 and join the Wales Coast Path towards Bangor with views across to Anglesey, Penryn Castle and Puffin Island. There are numerous birds to spot so you may like to bring your binoculars. When we go inland again the walk is through fields and along quiet country lanes and we visit The Spinnies Nature Reserve early on. After Tal-y-Bont we pass back under the A55 again and follow the North Wales Path and quiet lanes into Bethesda
