Sunday 17th July 2016 - Hawes, Yorkshire Dales

This month our walks are based on Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales.. The’ B+’ walk is  linear starting from a point on the A684. The other walks all start from Hawes. The coach will leave school as usual at 8.00 am prompt and stop at the motorway services for a toilet/boot up stop.  Boots are essential on all walks. All the walks finish at Hawes where there are plenty of opportunities for refreshments.  We plan to leave at 5.30 pm to be back in Formby about 7.30pm

The cost of travel will be £10.00 for members, £13.00 for non-members and £5.00 for Leaders, children and students in full time education. Please make your cheque payable to Range Walking Club and ensure it is signed as it is inconvenient for the Treasurer to chase up such omissions.

Please send in your return to the Treasurer before 5th May; places will be booked on the coach by the treasurer on a first come first served basis.

Cancellations: if you need to cancel or make a late booking, please contact the Treasurer on 01704 809287 or by email monicatuk@yahoo.co.uk who will endeavour to substitute your booking from the waiting list.  If you cancel after 10th September and it is not possible to fill your place on the coach, regrettably, we will not be able to give you a refund as coaches will have been booked on initial returns.

Club AGM Monday 11th July
The Club AGM will be held on Monday 11th July at Range High School and all walkers with the club are welcome to attend.  Membership cards will be issued from 7pm onwards and the meeting will commence at 7.30pm.  The AGM papers have been circulated, please will you print them off and bring them to the meeting with you.

‘A’ Walk Distance: 13.5 miles Ascent: 1500 ft Leaders: Andy Fowler Jane Fowler	A relatively easy A walk with few ascents and all small, but commanding views of Widdale, Raydale and Sleddale.  We start heading east from Hawes to Burtersett and then begin our ascent in a southern direction to reach the Roman Road (Cam High Road) and then onto Wether Fell.  We continue south westerly to the view point at Long Slack gate and then on to Heator Pasture before turning to head back to Hawes following the Pennine Way.
‘B+’ Walk Distance: 10.5 miles Ascent: 1720 ft Leaders: John Roberts Edwina Roberts	Starting at the Moorcock Inn on the A684 we follow the River Ure turning east at Blades up to High Dyke and cross the grouse moors to descend into Cotterdale.  From there we take the zigzag path up towards Jinglemea Bog turning east again to join the Pennine Way which we follow to Hawes with a a refreshment opportunity in Hardraw.
‘B’ Walk Distance: 8.4 miles Ascent: 130 ft Leaders: Louise Pimm David Wake	From the coach park in Hawes, we head eastwards to gain the field path that takes us to Bursett village and the bridle path that climbs steadily up the fellside with panoramic views to Wensleydale and the fells beyond.   We then plan to contour round Wether Fell before joining the Cam High Road which we follow in a south-westerly direction to join the minor road at the head of Sleddale.   Heading back towards Hawes, we divert to walk alongside the Gayle Beck and view the spectacular Aysgill Force.
‘C’ Walk Distance: 6.5 miles Ascent: 750 ft Leaders: Steve Wright A N Other	A gentle and varied walk setting out from Hawes across fields to the village of Sedbusk and then on to Hardrow where there may be a chance to visit the falls. We then set off on a steady climb of about 200 ft along the Pennine  way before descending through meadows that bring us to New Bridge and a pleasant country lane following Widdale Beck. A bridle way and fields ends at the Wensleydale Creamery where there will be a chance to buy some cheese before a final stroll through alleyways in to Hawes.
