‘A’ Walk
Distance: 10 miles
Ascent: 2000 ft
Leaders:
Andy Fowler
Jane Fowler

If it’s an adventure you need this Sunday, then this is the walk for you.
Variety is the spice of life and this walk has great variety – riverside walking, fields, moors, deciduous woods, evergreen woods, high level views of Snowdonia etc etc.
In addition, there are dark spooky woods, rickety, wobbly stiles, tree climbing and limbo dancing, waist high ferns and brambles.  Seriously, do not attempt this walk in shorts.  Ideally, machetes, hard hats, goggles and gloves should be worn.

We start by walking along the river heading north west until we reach Tynddol.
Turning north east we climb through fields to a track which we take for a while before heading to Penmaen-mawr.
Here we head north steadily climbing to skirt around Pen y Bwlch Gwyn before picking up the path south which skirts around the western edge of Moel Emoel.and the eastern edge of Llyn Maen Bras.
Weather permitting, there are excellent views all around – Snowdonia, Lake Bala etc.
It’s then interesting fields, woods etc heading south west until we pick up the track at Llwyn y coed and follow the track back down to the car park passing the closed visitor centre.

‘B+’ Walk
Distance: 10 miles
Ascent: 1200 ft
Leaders:
Margaret Pegg
Lynn Smith

This walk gives us a full circuit of Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake).
After using the toilet facilities in Bala and putting on boots etc we board the coach and drive along the lake to Pont y Lafar where we commence our walk by walking up to the small hamlet of  Plasmadog.
Turning south we continue across the foothills on the north west side of Llyn Tegid  which offers good views of the Arans and Cader Idris.
After passing Weirglodd Wen – the former home of the eminent Michael Jones we walk into the village of Llanuwchllyn and the picturesque station at the start of the Bala Lake Railway.
After the station we follow undulating paths across the foothills on the south east side of Llyn Teged from whence we enjoy extensive views of the lake.
After going along the full length of the south side of the lake we arrive at Bala station and walk back into Bala.

‘B’ Walk
Distance: 8.5 miles
Ascent: 1750 ft
Leaders:
David Wake
Gill Hickmott

We leave Bala along a path passing the northern end of Lake Bala, over the river Dee, to a track and then a path climbing, steeply at first, to the south, through pinewoods and then tufty grass, to reach a level track that takes us through a plantation to moorland.
Here we climb again up to a pine forest at Craig yr Allor.
Now descending gently through the forest we follow a path to Haffoty-bach to pick up a forest track which becomes a tarmac road heading north-west and still descending. We leave the road along a series of field paths heading north east with two short climbs before descending to Ffridd-coed, Bala golf course and hotel, Bala narrow gauge railway station and back to the bridge over the river Dee and the path back into Bala.

‘C’ Walk
Distance: 7.5 miles
Ascent: 950 ft
Leaders:
David Poole
Steve Wright

The walk, which includes a number of well-built ladder styles, explores the attractive hills south of Bala and offers panoramic views of the lake and surrounding hills and mountains.
We start off with a gentle walk along a disused railway line by the river to skirt round the back of Bala village.
We then cross over the Bala Lake railway by a footbridge and start a long but gentle ascent with magnificent views over Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake) and the surrounding countryside.
The route follows good paths and bridleways and although it is a long ascent we have plenty of time and will stop as often as necessary.
We eventually lose sight of the Lake but are still rewarded with views of the Berwyns, the Arans and Cader Idris.
We pass through an area of cleared woodland before eventually entering a wooded area.
Having been walking in a southerly direction we now turn east and then north and at this point we leave the wooded area and start our slow descent.
On the descent there were one or two soft areas of ground but otherwise the terrain was good under foot.
Once again the views on the way down should be good.
On arriving back to the outskirts of Bala we rejoin the disused railway line to make our way back to the coach park.
