Leaving the bus on Watling Street in Wellington we walk down Golf Links Lane under the M54 and start the first of three undulating climbs through Ercall Wood then Lawrence’s Hill and finally the Wrekin where we join the Shropshire Way.
We follow the way touching Little Wenlock, over Braggers Hill, down Loamhole Dingle, and the Rope Walk into Coalbrookdale Iron Work Museums where we hope to spend a little time.
We then follow the picturesque Church Road and Church Hill before descending to the Iron Bridge.

‘B’ Walk
Distance: 9 miles
Ascent: 1000 ft
Leaders:
David Wake
Alan Thomas

The walk starts in Much Wenlock, where the modern Olympic Games were instigated, with a gentle climb to the north-west on the Shropshire Way up to Wenlock Edge.
There could be extensive views north over Shrops, Staffs and Cheshire subject to weather conditions.
From here the route turns east along a lower path through woodland then farmland to the northern outskirts of Much Wenlock.
At the old railway station we join the Olympian Way (Much Wenlock have celebrated their own Olympian Games since the 1850’s) which we follow for a short distance before rejoining the Shropshire Way (SW).
The SW takes us over farm fields and tracks past Bradley Farm, Wyke village on to Benthall Edge.
Here a long steady descent through Benthall Edge Woods takes us down to the Severn Way and the iron bridge.
We cross the bridge and turn left to the Visitor Centre and coach park.

‘C’ Walk
Distance: 6.5 miles
Ascent: 750 ft
Leaders:
David Turton
Steve Wright

From the coach park we follow the river eastwards to Buildwas Bridge.
The riverside path is quite narrow in places and will be taken with care.
Crossing the bridge we go south to Banghams wood and from here we make our main climb of the day up onto Benthall edge.
This will be taken slowly.
At the top a good track leads us to Benthall Chapel and Hall.
We then follow well marked paths and tracks making our way to Benthall Edge wood.
Continuing to follow well marked paths we pass through the wood to join the Shropshire way and then make a steep descent via impressive wooden steps (with handrail) before following a path down to the river, eventually reaching Thomas Farnols Pritchard’s famous Iron Bridge.
We cross the bridge and follow the river back through Ironbridge to the coach.
