Sunday 19th May 2013 - Conway, North Wales

This month our walks are based on Conwy. The coach will leave school as usual at 8.00 am prompt.  There will be no stop enroute as there are adequate toilets in Conwy where all walks start and finish and there is a good choice of refreshments for the end of the day.  We plan to leave at 5.30pm and should be back in Formby by 7.30pm.

The cost of travel will be £10.00 for members, £13.00 for non-members and £5.00 for Leaders, children and students in full time education. Please make your cheque payable to Range Walking Club and ensure it is signed as it is inconvenient for the Treasurer to chase up such omissions.

Please send in your return to the Treasurer at 19 Burlington Ave Formby before 11th April; places will be booked on the coach by the treasurer on a first come first served basis.

Cancellations: if you need to cancel or make a late booking, please contact the Treasurer on 01704 871308 who will endeavour to substitute your booking from any waiting list. If this is not possible, then regrettably we will not be able to give you a refund as coaches will have been booked on initial returns.

‘A’ Walk
Distance: 13 miles
Ascent: 2300 ft
Leaders:
Lynn Smith
Gordon Spence

On good tracks we head west to Crow’s Nest Farm , then south west passing remains of aincent settlements and having extensive views over the Conwy Valley.
There are faint paths to ascend the Tal y Fan plateau, then some undulations to the trig point(2000 ft ) for lunch.
Care is needed on descent  over a field of  large rocks.
A short stretch of boggy wet ground must be navigated then we are back on good paths all the way to Conwy.
First over open fellside then joining the North Wales Path over Conwy Mountain , more ancient ruins and stunning coastal views.
This is quite a long walk requiring a good steady pace to retain adequate refreshment time in Conwy.

‘B’ Walk
Distance: 9.5 miles
Ascent: 1800 ft
Leaders:
John Hughes
Daid Willis

This is a circular walk of 4 parts: flat, up, flat, down.
We follow the estuary along the coastline to Penmaenmawr (the final part of this unfortunately between the road and the railway), before a gentle climb on the road from the village to the hamlet of Capelulo.
From here there is a sharp climb to Maen Esgob to pick up the North Wales Path which, apart from the drop and climb crossing Sychnant Pass, undulates gently until its equally gentle descent into Conwy.
Good views from the NW Path (with usual provisos).

‘C’ Walk
Distance: 7 miles
Ascent: 1000 ft
Leaders:
Linda Trollope
Denise Nunn

This is a slightly more taxing C walk to start with but, we feel, within the capabilities of the group.
We climb after leaving the coach to the Trig point above Conwy with some great views over the Conwy Valley and over to Conwy Mountain.
We descend to Groesffordd and then push steadily upwards to Lechwedd and then pick up the North Wales Path and carry on along the lower end of the Conwy Mountain Ridge.
There are views across to the Conwy Estuary and the Castle during our descent down to the Morfa promenade which we then follow back into Conwy.
