Sunday 17th March 2013 - Ilkley, Yorkshire

On Sunday 17th March there will be three walks, all starting and finishing in Ilkley.  Boots are essential for all works.  The coach will leave school as usual at 8.00 am prompt and travel directly to Ikley where there are toilets in the car park, make sure you have a 20p coin!!  All the usual refreshment opportunities are available at the end of the walks.  We plan to leave Ilkley at 5.00 pm to be back in Formby by 7.30 pm.
 
The cost of travel will be £10.00 for members, £13.00 for non-members and £5.00 for Leaders, children and students in full time education. Please make your cheque payable to Range Walking Club and ensure it is signed as it is inconvenient for the Treasurer to chase up such omissions.

Please send in your return to the Treasurer at 19 Burlington Ave Formby before 7th March, places will be booked on the coach by the treasurer on a first come first served basis.  Cancellations, if you need to cancel or make a late booking, please contact the Treasurer on 01704 871308 who will endeavour to substitute your booking from any waiting list. If this is not possible, then regrettably we will not be able to give you a refund as coaches will have been booked on initial returns.

 

NOTICES

Club 35th Anniversary:  Friday 22nd March 2013
This year is the Club’s 35th anniversary, which we are celebrating with a ceilidh and hot-pot supper on Friday 22nd March 2013 at the Gild Hall Formby.  Music will be provided by “The Travelling People” with Kevin Bargen calling.  The hot-pot will be provided by Gillions of Crosby.
There will be a vegetarian option and all meals will be followed by a dessert.

The evening will commence at 7.30pm and continue until 11.30pm.   All walkers are welcome to attend and can be accompanied by guests.  The ticket price is £16.00 per person.  Tickets will be issued on a first come first served basis and distributed nearer to the time. In order that we can confirm numbers with the caterers please will those of you are considering attending, and have not yet sent in your cheque, send it this month with your reply slip.  If there are any vegetarian meals required please indicate this on the reply slip.

First Aid Talk:  Monday 25th February 2013
22 people attended the very interesting talk which was given by Nicola Hedges. 

Club Bank Holiday Weekend: 24th-27th May 2013 Twenty people have already booked, but there is no limit on numbers and all walkers are welcome. Details.

April walk: The details of the 21st April walk which is in Tideswell in Derbyshire will be published on 4th April.

‘A’ Walk Distance: 11 miles Ascent: 1400 ft Leaders: Ken Bryning Bob Scurr	An excellent gritstone moorland walk which (weather permitting!) provides great views for the majority of the day. Starting in Ilkley town entre we climb out to the south heading up towards White Wells (SE 117 468) and continuing up onto ‘Ilkley Moor’ (actually Rombalds Moor for the pedants amongst us). Following the Dales Way Link path we first visit the Twelve Apostles stone circle. Now heading westwards we follow (generally good!) moorland paths and edges towards Addingham High Moor. The ‘damper’ part of this path has been recently boarded so hopefully we shouldn’t get too wet!  Reaching Black Hill we pick up the new Millennium Way and head down towards Addingham Moorside where we follow fields and farms back to the A65. From there we pick up the Dales Way, which we follow back into Ilkley.
‘B’ / 'B+' Walk Distance: 9 miles Ascent: 1000 ft Leaders: Dave Purdy Ray Webb	This walk starts by exploring the countryside on the north side of the River Wharfe, returning on the Dales Way on the south side of the river. Leaving Ilkley by the bridge we head north through Middleton Woods to skirt Middleton Lodge. Continuing north via Primrose Hill and Parks Lane we reach Middleton Moor where a bridleway eventually brings us southwest to Moor End farm. From there a short section on a quiet lane takes us west to the start of an enclosed path heading southwest down to the Suspension Bridge over the R. Wharfe at Addingham. From there we will follow the Dales Way back to Ilkley.
‘C’ Walk Distance: 7.5 miles Ascent: 600 ft Leaders: Janet Purdy Glennis Poole	Starting from Ilkley we walk west along the river following the Dales Way to the village of Addingham with it’s pleasant Green and historic church. We then cross the River Wharfe by the Suspension Bridge and take a quiet lane to the pretty village of Nesfield, climbing gently up fields to High Austby farm with views of the surrounding countryside. The walk then continues along lanes and bridleways and near Middleton Lodge we can visit the Calvary, commissioned in 1862. We then descend gently through Middleton Woods back into Ilkley.
