Sunday 29th January 2012 - Clitheroe

On Sunday, 29 January, our walks are based at Clitheroe.
The coach will leave as usual from school at 8am prompt and travel direct to Clitheroe without a stop en route. There are toilet facilities in the coach park and all walks will start and end here. Refreshments at the end of the walk are readily available in the town.  We plan to leave Clitheroe at 4.30pm arriving back in Formby at approx 6.00pm traffic permitting.

The cost of travel will be £10.00 for adults, £13.00 for guests (see below) and £5.00 for Leaders, children and students in full time education.

Notices:

1.   NB  -  AMENDMENTS TO WALK PROGRAMME

    a) February Hot Pot Supper -  Due to a clash with the Club Foreign Holiday and knowing that a number of regular walkers will be unable to attend, it has been decided that there will be only 3 walks at Staveley – A, B+, and B/C.  The Hot Pot Supper has regrettably been cancelled.
    b) The March walk will be, not at Hollingworth, but at Hayfield
    c)  The April walk will be, not at Hartington, but at Hollingworth

2.   Club Bank Holiday Weekend,  1-5 June, 2012

The weekend will be based on the town of Brecon for walking in the Brecon Beacon’s National Park.  Please note that this is the Queen’s Jubilee weekend, hence the 4 days/nights rather than the usual three – you might wish to come for only 3 days – your choice!

We head east on field paths to Mearley Hall, where we pick up a good track to Hook Cliffe.
A short sharp ascent and we are on the summit of Pendle Hill, with impressive views for lunch.
Going south-west for the Ogden Clough path, we soon pick up the ridge of Pendle for a delightful walk to The Nick.
Field paths guide us back to town.
Gaiters are recommended.

‘B+’ Walk

Starting from Clitheroe heading to the Nick of Pendle via Mearley Hall and
Howcroft Barn, then turning south west to Parsley Barn, Wiswell Moor and
on to Wiswell before heading north to Standen Hall and back to
 Clitheroe.
Hoping for a clear day to enjoy the views.

‘B/C’ Walk
Distance: 8 miles
Ascent: 500 ft
Leaders:
David Willis
Linda Trollope

Starting at Edisford Bridge we cross the River Ribble and make our way via minor roads and/or fields to Higher Hodder Bridge, from whence we follow a pretty wooded path alongside the River Hodder with a not too strenuous climb taken at an easy pace.
A further road side stretch takes us through Mitton with its medieval church and hall, on to re-cross the Ribble and along its bank to return to Edisford Bridge.
Then back to Clitheroe for refreshments.
