Our walk this month leaves via Cartmel’s racecourse and climbs steadily through woodland and over pastures with several stiles along the way.
It continues along a quiet country lane to Speel Bank where we may see some deer.
We then take a path beside the deciduousCollkield Wood climbing up to a stile over a high wall and excellent views of the Coniston Fells, the Leven Estuary and the Hoad Monument at Ulverston (weather permitting.
Joining the Cumbria Coastal Way we make our way along a delightful high level ridge, at the end of which is an optional short diversion to the top of How Barrow for more scenic views.
From here we drop down below Mount Bernard and along the Cistercian Way to Cartmel.
