The venue for this year’s Christmas walk is in the Eastham area of Wirral. As usual, we will be having a meal after the walk - see details below. The walk starts and finishes at Eastham Country park. (OS Explorer 266, Grid Ref: SD 364 818). Make your own way there and if possible, share a car to save space. Please meet in the car park at 9.15am for a 9.30am start.

Make your way to the Wallasey Tunnel (Toll Charge) and go through to follow the M53 to Junction 5. Take the slip road to the A41 and turn onto the A41 Birkenhead. After about a quarter of a mile look out for the brown sign on your left “EASTHAM COUNTRY PARK”. Turn right here onto B5132 Stanley Lane and follow this through the village, keeping right at the Hooton Arms. Continue along Ferry Road until it reaches the river, passing the Eastham Ferry Hotel on your left. The road bends left past the old ferry. The car park is on the right immediately after the bend, opposite the Rangers’ Office, where hopefully the toilets will be opened for us.
There is a limit of 40 people for the meal, so early booking is recommended. Members are welcome to bring guests, but not to the exclusion of other members.
The Eastham Ferry Hotel have said that they will take your lunch order at lunchtime at your table therefore there is no requirement to pre-order, but you may have to be patient. I need to know who is attending to reserve tables, so if you are coming please complete and return the form below as usual.
They also have a “2 for 1” offer for main courses where you only pay for the more expensive choice but you will have to ‘pair-up’ for this. The offer does not apply to starters or desserts.

The walk takes in both the country park and a nature reserve with an industrial estate (albeit new and well landscaped) in between. We follow the Mersey with views of Liverpool, Otterspool and the Airport, pass by Job’ Ferry, walk through Dibbinsdale nature reserve alongside Dibbins Brook, through a tunnel (a torch will help but not essential) and back to Eastham Country Park the site of Victorian Pleasure gardens.
