‘A’ Walk
Distance:10 ½ miles
Ascent: 3,000 ft
Leaders:
Ken Bryning
Bob Scurr

The Fairfield Horseshoe – Another chance to sample one of the best ridge walks in the Lake District.
Starting at the gates to Rydal Hall, we walk in a clockwise direction climbing Nab Scar, Heron Pike and Great Rigg up to the summit of Fairfield (2863 ft).
The views, subject to the weather, are stunning in all directions. We return down the east side of the horseshoe, via Hart Crag, Dove Crag, High Pike, Low Pike and finally Low Sweden bridge and into Ambleside at the back of the Charlotte Mason College.
This is a Lakeland classic, not to be missed!

‘B+’ Walk
Distance: 10½ miles
Ascent: 2,350ft
Leaders:
Glennis Poole
Dave Purdy

This is a circular walk from Grasmere , taking in Sergeant Man (2,424 feet) and High Raise (2,500 feet).
The first part is a gradual ascent via Sour Milk Gill to Easdale Tarn.
The path then gets steeper and rockier in parts, but the views from Sergeant Man and the adjacent High Raise should be well worth the effort.
For the descent back to Grasmere we follow the main route to Greenup Edge and then down Far Easdale Valley , which could be boggy in places. This is a classic walk in the centre of Lakeland.

‘B’ Walk
Distance: 8 miles
Ascent: 1,200ft
Leaders:
Janet Purdy
Carole Bryning

The walk starts in Ambleside and passes through Rothay Park before ascending to Miller Brow.
We then follow a good track with extensive views over the lower slopes of Loughrigg Fell to skirt Loughrigg Tarn and drop down to Skelwith Bridge.
The route then follows the Cumbria Way to Elterwater with classic views of the Langdale Pikes before climbing up to Huntingstile Crag.
A gradual descent to Grasmere then starts, passing beneath Dow Bank, Spedding Crag and Silverhowe.

‘C’ Walk
Distance: 6 ½ miles.
Ascent: 1,100ft
Leaders:
Barry Whitby

Peter Houghton

The ‘C' walk consists of a combination of two very different short walks.
The first, a circular walk of Rydal Water.
The second, a walk up to Alcock Tarn.
On leaving the coach we head first across to the Loughrigg Terrace path and then via Rydal Cave to Rydal Mount.
After stopping for coffee, there is an excellent small café at Rydal Hall, we then head back towards Grasmere along the Old Coffin Road.
From here we join the second walk route as it zigzags up through woods and over open fell to Alcock Tarn.
Wonderful views reward for our efforts in climbing up. Care will be necessary as we make our way down to Grasmere via Greenhead Gill as it's a little steep in places.
An alternative end to the walk will be made, if the weather is unkind.
