The venue for this year's Christmas walk is the Bispham Green area (near Mawdesley). As usual, we will be having a meal after the walk - see details below. The walk starts, and finishes, at The Eagle and Child at Bispham Green. (OS Explorer 285, Grid Ref: SD 489 135).
Route.
Take your preferred route to the A59 to Ormskirk and then head along the A59 towards Burscough past the Beaufort Hotel (and watch the Speed cameras!!)
Take the A5209 (Parbold) -a right turn, and after passing Briars Hall take a left towards Hoscar.
Continue straight down Hoscar Moss Lane for about 2 miles, passing over the canal, the railway, and River Douglas, to meet a T' junction.
Turn left here (Hall Lane) and then after 100 yards a right turn (Green Lane). The Eagle and Child' is at the end of this lane.
Ample parking is at the rear to the right of the hotel.
Distance: 17 miles. Journey Time: 30 mins.
Please meet in the car park at 9.15am for a 9.30am start. If possible, share a car to save space.
The Walk.
Will take in paths and quiet lanes via Harrock Hill to the Trig point on Parbold Hill (518ft), with extensive views over the West Lancashire plain.
The walk continues via High Moor, the Leeds Liverpool canal and Parbold, to return to the Eagle and Child.
Distance: 6½ miles. Ascent: less than 500 feet Leaders: Ken and Carole Bryning
There is a limit of 40 people for the meal, so early booking is recommended. Members are welcome to bring guests, but not to the exclusion of other members.
