Climbing steadily but with steep rock steps requiring some easy scrambling, we make our way to Stony Cave Pike (2,600 ft).
A steep descent and a rough, stony climb takes us to Thornthwaite Crag and the start of the ridge walk down to Staveley. Froswick , Ill Bell and Yoke in turn present excellent views of the central fells and the Morecambe Bay area.
We then descend to Kentmere and follow the river Kent by riverside path and minor roads to Staveley. In adverse conditions, this walk may be cancelled and we would join with the B+.

‘B+’ Walk
Distance: 12 miles
Ascent: 1,100 ft

Leaders:
John Rothwell
David Willis

A very pleasant, typical B+ walk covering moor, river valley, open fields and a few country lanes.
Starting at Staveley, we head north west across fields and moorland, passing two tarns as we drop to the River Sprint for lunch.
The Longsleddale valley is followed upstream to Hollin Root where we climb to cross moorland to Staveley Head Fell before descending gently, again to Staveley by track and lane.
There are two short periods of climbing which will be taken at a relaxed pace.

‘B’ Walk
Distance: 7 ½ miles
Ascent: 700 ft

Leaders:
Phil Morgan
Linda Trollope

A pleasant and varied walk via quiet roads and tracks, through woodland, a little open moorland and often accompanied by water, becks, rivers, even a cascading stream.
Leaving Staveley, we head towards Kentmere. Halfway, we turn eastwards with a brisk but not too taxing climb through woodland, emerging onto open moor and heading towards Staveley Heath Fell. We soon turn southwards, however, and down to Hall Beck.
At Park House, we turn to make another relatively undemanding ascent which takes us towards High House. Given good weather, the views should be fantastic. It's downhill then towards the River Kent, via Hogg Foot, and Frost Hole.
Look out for waterfalls along our way. We have a choice then; go directly back to Staveley via a quiet road or cross the River Kent and follow the Dales Way along its side to Staveley. Either way, arriving with a good appetite for our awaiting meal.

‘C’ Walk
Distance: 7 ½ miles.
Ascent: 100 ft

Leaders:
David Griffiths
Stuart Norris

Starting from Staveley, we road walk south easterly before turning off to pass underneath the railway line and then crossing the very busy A591 (Windermere road).
We head south, crossing fields and a small wood to reach the B5284. Here we head east along the road for about half a mile to High Brundrigg where we head for Burnside via fields, again crossing the A591.
At Burnside we rejoin the Dales Way , which we follow along the River Kent to rejoin the Staveley Road near the level crossing. We then follow the road back into Staveley.

Note – this walk may be muddy in places along the Dales Way .
