The venue for this years Christmas walk is the Appley Bridge area. As usual, we will be having a meal after the walk - see details below. The walk starts, and finishes, at the Waters Edge, Appley Bridge (OS Explorer 285 - grid 525093). This is easily reached by car from Formby (allow 40 minutes):
· Cross the by-pass near Tesco's and head out through Altcar over the Moss (B5195). At the Scarisbrick Arms, turn left and then right onto the road to Ormskirk. Turn left onto the A59 and continue along to Burscough. In Burscough turn right onto the A5209 the road to Parbold. Proceed through Parbold and on up the hill to the cross roads at the Dicconson arms, turn right on the B5375 down the hill to Appley Bridge. Continue on past the sign for the railway station then turn left at the sign ‘The Moorings’ into Mill Lane. If you cross the canal, you have gone too far! The Waters Edge is 200 metres along this road.
Please meet in the car park by 9.15am for a 9.30am start. We have been asked to park vehicles at the back of the car park. If possible, share a car to save space.
The walk starts at the pub and is a circular walk via fields, lanes and canal towpath. The route has a gentle climb through a housing estate to the golf course and thereafter is fairly level. It is generally firm underfoot with a few wet and muddy spots. Boots are recommended.

There is a limit of 60 people for the meal, so early application is recommended. Members are welcome to bring guests, but not to the exclusion of other members.
