A Walk

Starting at Whitefield Cottage just north of the village of Bassenthwaite, we walk past he Overwater Hotel and a little known curiosity – a sandstone pillar with the carved head of the great huntsman, John Peel. We then go past an ancient moat, alongside Little Tarn and through Park Wood before ascending to Dash Falls. From the falls we take the well marked path up Skiddaw via Birkett Edge. We descend from Skiddaw by the Allerdale Ramble path through Millbeck, Applethwaite and onto Keswick.

Distance: 10 miles Ascent: 2,400 ft
Leaders: John Roberts, Margaret Pegg

B+ Walk

Starting at Braithwaite, we follow a well-marked path along the side of Coledale Beck up to Coledale Hause. We ascend Crag Hill, along the exposed ridge path to the trig point, the high point of our walk, where our efforts shoudl be rewarded with some magnificent views. We then descend on a rocky path between Outerside and Causey Pike and then follow Stoneycroft Gill on to Uzzicar Farm. From here we cross to Newlands Beck and follow the path down to Portinscale and then on to Keswick.

Although only 9 miles, it is quite strenuous walk and will not leave much time in Keswick afterwards.
