Range Walking Club.
Christmas Walk 28th December 2000, Lancashire-Town Green/Birkerstaffe.
As usual we have arranged for a circular walk with total ascent less than 50ft, the majority of which is to bridge the motorway. The walk is based on the Town Green/Bickerstaffe area of Lancashire, with lunch at the Cockbeck Inn at Town Green. However, the accommodation for lunch is limited, so early booking is essential. The walk. provides quite a vista of Liverpool as well as views of the hills of Wales, on a clear day.

Virtually all the route is over pasture and arable land and only a few stiles are encountered. Despite recent rains, the recce presented few problems with regard to mud or lying water, There will be opportunities to extend the walk, if required, if conditions allow and time is available.

To get to the start of the walk take the road over the Moss, passing Tesco's on your right. Proceed onwards past the Scarisbrick Arms Hotel towards Ormskirk, until the mini roundabout 300 yards short of the A59. Turn right at this roundabout and at the next roundabout (Northway) go straight across and drive towards Town Green. Just short of the "T" junction on your right, you will see a car park which serves the Village Hall and recreation ground, This is where the walk starts. Distance is approximately 9 miles from Formby. The walk will commence at 09.30 am prompt. Please note. there are no toilet facilities in Town Green.
