- Sunday 17th October 1999 - Bradford - Haworth
- Sunday, 17 October 1999 takes us to Bronte country and the village of
Haworth which is steeped in history including the Bronte Parsonage Museum,
the former home of the Bronte family. A multitude of antique and gift shops
can be found in the town along with pubs, cafes and toilet facilities. As
usual the coaches leave school at 0800 hrs prompt and will leave Haworth at
1730 hrs to arrive back at school by 1930 hrs. There will be no stops on the
outward journey but toilet facilities will be available at the start of the
walks. The cost of travel remains at £7.00 for adults and £4.00 for
children and students in full-time education who were formerly pupils of
Range High School. Please return slips with cheque (NOT CASH) to the school
office by Thursday, 7 October in an envelope marked "Range Walking
Club".
'A' Walk
The Hebden Bridge - Haworth walk is a relatively easy 'A' walk - even the
moorland paths being mostly stone flagged. It begins by following Hebden
Water through beautiful National Trust woodland, climbing via Hardcastle
Crags to Walshaw. The next section crosses stark moorland north to Walshaw
Dean Reservoir where it joins the Pennine Way to reach the ruin at Withins.
The Bronte Way then provides a pleasant walk into Haworth.

'B'+ Walk
This walk starts at Pecket Mill (GR996294) just north of Hebden Bridge and
proceeds westwards through Hebden Dale to Hardcastle Crags and then on to
Walshaw. We then use the permissive path taking us on to the moors to join
the Pennine Way which we will follow northeastwards as far as the ruined Top
Withins Farm (Wuthering Heights). From this point we turn east on
well-defined paths via Bronte Waterfalls to Penistone Hill Country Park and
descend into Haworth to finish the walk. We hope to have time to have a look
around this fascinating town.

'B' Walk
We start our walk along the cobbled main street of Haworth before taking
a 2-mile stroll through the Country Park terminating in a steepish descent
alongside the Bronte Falls. This is followed by a late coffee stop to view
the Bronte Seat then a climb out of the valley, a sweep across the moors and
return through farm fields navigating a variety of stiles and encountering a
great variety of other obstacles! A road walk into and through Dalesworth
leads us to the Victorian Dalesworth Steam Railway Station where members can
catch a steam train back to Haworth (£1.50 approx) or brave the second and
steepest climb of the day. A walk bigger in interesting sites (or even
sights) than scenic beauty.

'C' Walk
Starting at Haworth Church we follow the Bronte Way on a gentle ascent of
Penistone Hill and pass Enshaw Knoll before going down to Bronte Bridge.
After a short, steep climb we join the Pennine Way and follow this route to
the ruins of Top Withins (thought to have provided the inspiration for
Wuthering Heights). From this vantage point there are fine views of Haworth
Moor. We continue across moorland and then take a field track behind
Stanbury Village to Lumb Foot. We then follow the River Worth for a short
distance and take a footpath back into Haworth.
