'A' Walk
Starting from the Brotherswater Inn at Sykeside (404119) we climb steadily (pausing only to admire the views) past disused quarries to Causdale Head and Stony Cove Pike. An undulating path over Threshthwaite takes us to lunch on Thornthwaite Crag. Joining the Roman Road on High Street we then have the option of descending to Howtown for a ferry trip (time allowing) or a return via The Knott and Angle Tarn to Glenridding.

Distance: 10 miles
Ascent: 3000'
Leaders: John Roberts and Margaret Pegg

'B'+ Walk
Weather permitting, this is an opportunity for the more adventurous to sample the classic ascent of Helvellyn via Striding Edge. Starting from the coach park in Glenridding, we ascend via Mires Beck and Bleaberry Crag to traverse The Edge and thence scramble to the summit of Helvellyn. The return route takes us to Whiteside Bank before descending Glenridding Common to reach the old lead mines and the track back into Glenridding. The walk is exposed in places and also includes some scrambling to reach the main summit. It is definitely not the faint-hearted. Those who rise to the challenge will be rewarded by Lakeland scenery at its best as well as the satisfaction of achieving one of the most famous ascents. In the event of inclement weather an alternative walk will be provided.

Distance: 8½ miles
Ascent: 3000'
Leaders: David Poole and Steve Mcllraith

'B' Walk
This is a tale of two valleys. We set out from behind the Patterdale Hotel to make our way south west along the southern side of Grisedale. The route is varied with plantations, fields and open moorside with fine views of the Helvellyn edges above and ahead of us. At Patterdale Common we cross Grisedale Beck and head north-east along the opposite side of the valley to Brownend Plantation where we climb through woods and open land to the Glenridding valley. At this point we have superb views of Ullswater. We follow this valley up to the old lead mines where we cross the beck for an easy walk back to the coaches in Glenridding.

Distance: 8½ miles
Ascent: 1000'
Leaders: Barry Bord and Barry Whitby

'C' Walk
This pleasant walk with good views starts from Glenridding and makes its way past Lanty's Tarn to Grisedale. We walk up the valley to cross over Grisedale Beck and then follow footpaths along the north side of Grisedale back to Glenridding.

Distance: 7 miles
Ascent: 700'
Leaders: David Turton and John McKay
