This circular walk of 6 miles, with an ascent of 400’, starts and ends at the "Railway Inn" in Parbold Village where lunch will be available after the walk. In good visibility, the walk provides extensive views over the Lancashire coastal plain towards distant Snowdonia.
The route uses a mixture of field and woodland paths, bridle ways, the canal towpath and through the steep-sided Fairy Glen with its waterfalls. Some sections of the route can be extremely muddy after heavy rain, therefore boots are essential,
There will be a selection of leaders - Dave and Janet Purdy, Dave and Glennis Poole, Ray Webb and Peter Houghton.
To get to the start of the walk turn right off the A59 Liverpool - Preston road just before Burscough on to the A5209 (signposted M6), Follow this road through Newburgh and take the left turn signposted "Parbold Village". Continue straight ahead over the Canal Bridge. The "Railway Inn" is on the left-hand side of the road next to the level crossing (G.R. 491108). There is a large car park at the rear of the Inn and the, walk will start promptly at 0930 hrs.
As usual we have arranged for eating facilities at the "Railway Inn' at the end of the walk. The price of the meals/puddings on offer vary and options available are listed below. Please indicate on the attached slip the number of people requiring each menu item and return the slip with a cheque duly signed and made payable to ‘Range walking Club’ by Thursday, 10th December 1998.
Although only a shortish drive, it is estimated the journey could take between 45 minutes and one hour. Consideration should be given to car sharing so that parking at the "Railway" does not prove a problem, Meals should he available from 1300 hrs onwards. Procedures to obtain your ordered meal will be explained before the walk finishes.
