Range Walking Club
Christmas Walk - Monday. 29 December 1997 -Local Area

We have chosen a local walk this year - one which was new to Dave and myself and which turned out to be interesting and very pleasant. It starts and finishes at the Scarisbrick Arms, Downholland. Most of you will know that this inn is at the junction of the B5195 (Formby to Ormskirk Road) and the A567, approximately 10 - 15 minutes drive from Formby. The walk takes us through gently undulating countryside, ever changing farmland and along the Leeds- Liverpool Canal. There are some excellent views of the Lancashire Plain, the Liverpool skyline and the hills of the West Pennines. On a good day visibility includes North Wales, Blackpool and the Lake District. Please meet at the Scarisbrick Arms at 0900 hrs PROMPT. As usual we have arranged for eating facilities at the end of the walk and meals ordered beforehand will be available at 1400 hrs approximately. No more..walking has been arranged for the post-lunch period, thus those attending can depart at their leisure. We have arranged private dining facilities should the number having lunch meet expectations. The price of the meals varies and the options available are listed below. Please indicate on the attached slip the number of people for each menu item and return the slip with a cheque (signed) and made payable to 'Range Walking Club' by Thursday, 11 December 1997. Although it is only a short drive to the start/finish of the walk, car sharing would be helpful because of the limited parking facilities at the inn but such is not essential.
