Range Walking Club
Sunday 13th February 1994-South Lake District-Lindale
For this year's hot pot supper outing on 13 February we are again heading for the South Lake District. This area offers splendid walking for the time of year and walks explore parts not previously visited and fells other trips have not reached. We leave school at 8.00 a.m. prompt and expect to be back in Formby by 8.30 pm. A short toilet stop will be taken on the outward journey at Burton Services. The cost of travel is £4.00 for adults and £2.00 for children and students (under 18 years of age).
The hot pot will again be taken at Lindale (by popular request) and will cost £5.00 per head inclusive of main course, choice of sweet, tea or coffee - obviously subsidised as always by club funds - good value as always. Will members please indicate below on the return slip their choice of main meal. We must emphasise that on the day you adhere to your selected choice as naturally all meals need to be ordered in advance. Payment for both coach and meal must be by cheque only and slips returned to the school office by Thursday, 3 February 1994.

'A' Walk
From Mill Side (450840) we climb sharply onto Whitbarrow Scar which we follow North to Bell Rake. Heading west across the verdant valley we traverse Cartmel Fell, pass Sow How Tarn and on to Gummers How (391885) where picture-postcard vistas extend in all directions. A general south-easterly course takes us via Thorpinsty Hall to Moss Howe and then south to Stripe Bridge and the old road into Lindale. A richly rewarding walk, full of interest throughout.

'B'+ Walk
Starting from the main road, one mile south-cast of Newby Bridge, the walk heads northwards. A steady climb on a forest track through pleasant woodland brings us to Simpsons Ground reservoir. Parts of this path could be very wet As we emerge from the woods, we have lovely views over Cartmel Fell and beyond. We then take a series of paths and lanes via Foxfield, Cartmel Fell village, Cowmire Hall and Pool Bank to Witherslack Hall. Good tracks lead to the edge above Witherslack church where there are good views over the Winster Valley and the nearby coast A steep descent leads to the church and then footpaths take us down to the river. We then cross the main road and head for Lindale.
