Range Walking Club
Sunday 22nd November 1992-Yorkshire Dales-Kettlewell
 
The next walk is on November 22nd when we return to the much loved valley of Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales. with a series of walks based around the village of Kettlewell. There will be a toilet stop at Grassington on the outward journey and refreshments are on sale at the Racecourse Hotel at the end of the walks in Kettlewell. The coach will leave school at 8.00 a.m. prompt and we expect to be back in Formby by 7.00 p.m. The cost remains at £4.00 for adults and £2.00 for children and students (under 18 yrs ) Please return slips with cheque to Barbara Craine, School office. 'A' Walk.
From Conistone (981675) we head NW via The Dib onto the Bycliffe Road which we take to Mossdale Scar, a water sinks (016697). We follow Mossdale Beck N then NE as it climbs onto Great Whernside eventually arriving at the splendid, rocky summit 2288 ft. Now descending we make for the cycle-way at (986756) before heading East to the Starbottom Road and South into Kettlewell.

Ascent: 2000 ft.

'B'+ Walk
This easy 'B'+ walk starts and finishes at Kettlewell, and makes use of the "Dales Way" and other footpaths to link together some of the most attractive features of upper Wharfedale, namely The George." at Hubberholme, the "White Lion" at Cray, the "Buck Inn" at Buckden , and the "Fox and Hounds" at Starbottom.
 
Distance: 12 miles.
Ascent a 1200 ft (You will hardly feel it!)

'B' Walk
Leaving Kettlewell in a Northerly direction we climb along Top Mere Road (track) to Cam Head and Ta Dyke a ditch and earth bank built in roman times. The walk continues via Sandy Gate to Starbottom Out Moor. Our descent to Starbottom toy is via the Walden Road. The walk continues through Starbottom with its 17th century cottages and Inn'. before crossing Wharfedale and returning to Kettlewell via a climb over Moor End.

Distance: 8½ miles
Ascent: 1600 ft.

'C' Walk.
Leaving Kettlewell we climb slowly but steadily in a Southerly direction above Wharfedale before descending into Hawkswick, in relatively unspoilt Littondale. Lunch will be taken by the River Skirfare as we meander leisurely along its southern bank towards Arncliffe the original setting for "Emmerdale Farm ". The return to Kettlewell involves a steeper than usual 'C' walk climb of 750 ft but this will be taken at a gentle pace. and with stops, will allow full appreciation of the views, whilst legs and limbs recover'
