(290950') to Goats Water where we climb, short and steep,
to the base of Dow Crag (2555'). An easy rake, or an
optional scramble, lifts us to the summit. A high level
promenade to Coniston Old Man (2633'), Brim Fell and
Swirl How follows. We descend via the Prison Band to
Swirl Hause and then rise to Wetherlam (2502'). The
descent to Coniston is via Red Dell Beck.

- 'B'+ Walk
- Starting from Coniston, the walk begins with a 4 mile
long climb by way of Coppermines Valley, Levers Water and
Swirl Hause to the summit of Wetherlam (2502') and
spectacular Lakeland views in all directions. With all
the hard work done for the day we then descend via
Wetherlam Edge and Greenburn Beck to Little Langdale
Tarn. The return to Coniston through High Tilberthwaite
and Yewdale offers a complete contrast in scenery (and
physical effort!) using woodland paths and finally the
Cumbria Way.

starts with a strenuous steep climb at slow pace by lane
and path on to the hillside below The Old Man and
continues across moor and becks before descending into

Coniston Water for a relaxed walk back by the lake in
scenic surroundings where there will be opportunity to
look for the rare Red Necked Grebe recently reported In
these parts.

-
- 'C' Walk
- Given good weather there are splendid views throughout
the day as we walk from just north of Blawith (on the

of the Cumbria Way. The walk includes open fells, a tarn
and a disused reservoir, a Lakeland village with 2 inns,
a woodland descent to a shoreside walk into Coniston
passing John Ruskin's former home and Coniston Old Hall.
Boots are essential as there are several unavoidable wet
and muddy sections.
