Range Walking Club
Sunday 20th October 1991-North Lake District-Pooley Bridge
 
Our next walk on Sunday, October 20th, takes us to the beautiful North-east corner of the Lake District, centred around Ullswater/Pooley Bridge. There are four walks to choose from. Please note that at this time of year conditions on the fells can change rapidly, warm clothes, hat, gloves etc. should be carried. The coach will leave school at 8.00 a.m. prompt, returning by 7.30 p.m. There will be a short toilet stop (not for drinks) at Burton Services on the outward journey. Please return slip with cheque (not cash if possible) to Barbara Craine, school office by Thursday, 10th October 1991.

'A' Walk
Starts at the Kirkstone Inn and climbs N.E. to Caudale Moor and Stony Cove Pike (763m) 418101. We then descend Eastwards into Thresthwaite Mouth before a sharp pull up to Thornthwaite Crag. Our route North then follows the course of High Street Roman Road which takes in High Street (828m) 441111, High Raise (802m), Red Crag, Wether Hill, Loadpot Hill, descending all the way to our finish at Pooley Bridge.

'B'+ Walk
Starts at Hartsop and ascends via Hayeswater onto Knott (2423'), thence joining High Street at Rampsgill Head (2581'). We then turn Northwards and on to High Raise (2654'), Weather Hill (2210') and start a. long descent via the ridge visiting Loadpot Hill (2201') Bouscale Pike (1718') and Arthurs Pike (1747') From here we drop down into Pooley Bridge. A fine ridge walk with extensive views all round.

'B' Walk
Sets off from Patterdale and heads Eastwards up to Boredale Hause. Turning Northwards we climb gently onto Beda Fell (1664') before continuing Northwards along the ridge descending near Knicklethorns and onto the lane taking us to Howtown. From here the route crosses fields below Swarth Fell before joining the lakeside path alongside Ullswater and thence to Pooley Bridge.

'C' Walk
Begins at Pooley Bridge and gently climbs across the flanks of Heughscar Hill and Askham Fell to Helton. We then proceed via riverside path through woods and meadows to Askham. Turning West we then follow field paths and country roads back to Pooley Bridge.
