- The walks this month are centred around Shap on the
Eastern fringe of the Lake District. We leave school at
8.00 a.m. prompt, on Sunday, 21st June and hope to be
back by 7.30 p.m. The cost of the walks remains the same
at £4.00 for adults and £2.00 for children. Please
return slip below with your cheque to Barbara Craine,
School Office by Thursday, 11th June 1992. There will be
a toilet stop on the outward journey at Tebay Service
Station.
'A' Walk
Starting 2 miles south of Shap we follow lanes
towards Wet Sleddale Reservoir before ascending the fells
to its south, aiming for Grey Crag (Sleddale Fell on O.S.
497073, 2093') taking in along the way Sleddale Pike and
Great Yarlside. We turn north towards Tarn Crag before
following Mosedale Beck and Swindale Beck back towards
Shap.
Distance: 15 miles

'B'+ Walk
Starting at the junction of the A6 and B6261 our route
takes us south of the Wet Sleddale Reservoir and then
northwest past Sleddale Hall, up a short steep hillside.
We then proceed to Swindale, an atractive valley, and
swing northeast up and out of the valley to Tailbert,
continuing east to Keld and finishing in Shap. If time
permits a detour around Shap Abbey can be added.

'B' Walk
Starting in Shap, the walk proceeds west and the
northwest through Rosgill, on to Naddle Bridge and south
to Swindale. A choice of routes is available back to Shap
depending on weather conditions etc.

'C' Walk
We start from the A6 near Shapbeck Gate and continue in a
westerly direction towards Bampton Grange and on to
Bampton. From here we head in a southeasterly direction
following the river to Rosgill and then through Abbey
Park, turning northeastwards back to the village of Shap.
Easy walking.
