Range Walking Club
Thursday 28th December 1989-Lancashire-Billinge

The December walk will take place on Thursday, 28th, in the Billinge area. The start is at 10.00 a.m. prompt and if you leave Formby by 9.15 a.m. you should reach the starting point at the scheduled time. It will be necessary to proceed to the East Lanc's Road (A580), continue along this road until you come to Carr Mill traffic lights, turn left on to the A571 (signposted Billinge) and immediately on the opposite side of the A571 there is a car parking area. This is the starting point for the walk, which is the southern end of Carr Mill Lake. We shall then proceed north on the west side of the lake through pleasant countryside to Billinge Hill (550 ft.) where extensive views from the top on a clear day are stunning, stretching from the Pennines beyond Manchester in the east, to the Welsh hills in the west, and right over the Cheshire Plain. The descent takes us into Billinge village where lunch has been booked at the 'Eagle and Child'. We shall then return via farm tracks to Carr Mill Lake, around the east side and back to our starting point. We have been requested by the landlady of the 'Eagle and Child' to give her a rough estimate of the numbers taking lunch. It is not necessary to choose your meal prior to arrival, the need for numbers is to ensure that she has sufficient staff ' on duty to meet our requirements.

Total Walking Distance An easy six miles with one modest ascent.
