Sunday 17th April 1983-Lake District-Ambleside
The next outing of the walking group will take place on Sunday, 17 April, to the Ambleside area of the Lake District. The coach will leave the school at 8.00 a.m. promptly, so please assemble for 7.45 a.m. We expect to return to Formby for 8.00 p.m. There will be a short 'convenience' stop on the motorway on the outward journey. All the walks end in Ambleside, so that refreshments will be available before the homeward journey. Adequate protective clothing and strong footwear are essential (this means boots for 'A' and 'B' parties) At the recent A.G.M. of the Section, attention was drawn to the fact that jeans are unsuitable in certain conditions: dry, they offer little protection against wind and cold, and wet, they cling increasing the chill. The cost of the walks is Ł3.00 for adults and Ł2.00 for children. Please indicate, on the attached slip, which walk you intend to join and return it to the school office by Wednesday, 22 March. A speedy return would be appreciated as the school is on holiday from 25th March and we need to confirm the numbers for the coach.

'A' Party - the Fairfield Horseshoe.
Starting from Rydal, this Lakeland classic ascends via Nab Scar (1450 ft), Heron Pike (2003 ft) and Great Rigg Man (2513 ft) to Fairfield (2863 ft) "a grand mountain with grand satellites in support" (Wainwright). The return is via Hart Crag (2698 ft), Dove Crag (2603 ft), High Pike (2155 ft) and Low Pike (1657 ft) to Ambleside.

'B' Party
Starting from Ambleside, the walk ascends via High Sweden Bridge and Scandale Pass to Little Hart Crag (2091 ft) This is a long but not too steep ascent (2000 ft) in just over 4 miles, The route then goes over High Bakestones to join the 'A' party route at Dove Crag (2603 ft) The descent is via High Pike (2155 ft) and Low Pike (1657 ft) to Ambleside.

'C' Party
This will be a gentle walk in the Rydal and Grasmere area, visiting one or both of these beauty spots, Hopefully, some of Wordsworth's daffodils may still be seen. The walk will linger in Grasmere, where there is much to see, There may be some ascent, but this will not be too exacting. The day will end in Ambleside.
