Range Walking Club
Sunday 14th March 1982-North Wales-Clwyd-Loggerheads

The next outing of the walking group will be on Sunday, 14 March 1982, to the Clwyd Hills and Alyn Valley. The coach will leave promptly at 8.45 a.m., so please assemble in good time. We expect to be back by about 6.30 to 7.00 p.m. Details of the routes are given below and it would help if you would indicate on the return slip which walking party you would expect to join, although you may change your mind on the day if you wish.

'A' Party
This walk will start from a point close to Bodfari, and follow the Offa's Dyke Path along the ridge of the Clwyd Hills to Moel Famau. From there the descent is through woodlands and fields to Loggerheads. This is a strenuous walk and involves a total ascent of 3200 ft in 4 separate climbs, of which the third - about 350 ft is very steep.

Distance: Approximately 12/13 miles.
Leader: Mr P Ferguson.

'B' Party
This walk will start from a point near Nannerch, and climb gently up a good track to join the route of the 'A' Party at the foot of the third climb, referred to in the description of the 'A' walk.

Distance: Approximately 9 miles
Leader: Mr K Lamb.

Walkers in both 'A' and 'B' parties will be able to enjoy very fine views on both sides of the ridge, if the weather is kind to us. They should also realize that the ridge is completely exposed to any wind there may be. Cold winds can cause one to become chilled very rapidly, so suitable protective clothing is essential, as are boots.

'C' Party
This walk will start from Hendre and will follow minor roads for a little over a mile, to the point where it will follow paths along the River Alyn for the rest of the way. Apart from a gentle rise of about 200 ft out of Hendre, the walk is virtually flat, though possibly very muddy in places. Nevertheless we think it will provide an interesting and unusual outing, and the final stretch of the walk is through the Loggerheads Nature Trail.

Distance: Approximately 6 miles
Leader: Mr J Ryan.

The cost will be £2.50 for adults, and £1.50 for children.
