Range Walking Club

Sunday 17th January 1982-Yorkshire-Hebden Bridge (Cancelled due to lack of support)

 

The next outing of the walking Group, to the South Pennines, will take place on Sunday, 17 January 1982, and will start from Hebden Bridge. Yorkshire. The coach will leave promptly at 8.45 a.m., so please assemble at 8.30 a.m. We expect to be back by about 5.30 p.m. The cost will be £2.50 for adults, £1.50 for children. There are several cafes near to the Car Park in Hebden Bridge. Details of the individual walks are given below and it would be helpful if you would indicate on the return slip which party you would like to join, although you may change your mind on the day if you wish.

'A' Party (approximately 9 miles)
This walk is easier than usual, but is felt to be appropriate for the time of year. The route follows the Pennine Way and commences just south of the M61 motorway (985144) and takes in Blackstone Edge and Stoodley Pike (973242). The final, part of the walk (from 978243) deviates from the Pennine Way and follows footpaths through pleasant countryside to Hebden Bridge. The paths are distinct throughout but are muddy at the best of times, so walking boots are essential.

Combined 'B' and 'C' Party (approximately 7 miles)
After a half-hour coffee stop, the 'B'/'C' walk will start near the Information Centre in Hebden Bridge, proceeding by a steep climb up the road to Horsehold viewing point. Both here and during the rest of the walk, extensive views over typical Yorkshire countryside will be possible, weather permitting. This initial ascent constitutes most of the "climbing" for the day. We continue on muddy, but pleasant terrain to the summit of Stoodley Pike (1,400 ft) before following the ridge back to Hebden Bridge in time for light refreshments before the coach leaves. We would advise boots and the usual clothing necessary for a winter hill walk.
