Range Walking Club

Sunday 15th June 1980-Howgills-Sedburgh

 

The next excursion for the F.R.H.S.A. walking group is to the Howgills and will take place on Sunday, 15th June. Details of the three walks are set out below. If you would like to attend this outing, please fill in the attached slip and return it to school by Monday, 9th. June at the latest. Places will be allocated in the order in which the requests are received. A coach will leave the school car park at 8.00 a.m. and return at approximately 6.45 p.m. Cost will be £2.00 for adults, £1.00 for children.

 

The Howgills is an attractive area just off the main tourist routes, where it is possible to walk for miles without meeting other people at all. Wainwright, the well known writer of mountain guide books, described the region as "the forgotten hills". All the planned excursions promise an enjoyable day's walking with the attraction of tea shops in Sedburgh to complete the outings. We look forward to your joining us on this trip.

'A' Party

From Langdale (near Tebay) via Uldale Beck, Docker Knott, Fell Head and the Calf to Sedburgh. This is a good quality 'A' walk of about 12½ miles with lovely views. (Approximately the standard of the 'A' walk on the May walk in the Langdales)

'B' Party

From the Cross Keys Hotel, (near Sedburgh) to Cautley Spout (a waterfall of 750') up by the waterfall to the Calf and then to Sedburgh - a walk of approximately 9 miles. with magnificent views.

Leaders: A. Freeth and S. Syme

'C' Party

From Rawthey Bridge along the river to Sedburgh with a detour to look at Cautley Spout. This walk covers a distance of 7½ miles with no significant uphill parts.
