October 10         Caldbeck            Cumbria
On a bright sunny morning, two 'C' group members where fortunately on hand to shore up a collapsing wall...
....Leaving the gallant wall savers, David Whitehurst led the rest of the group  along  Whelpo Beck  to Whelpo Bridge,  .

There , we spent a little time "Ooing and Ahing" over a Shetland pony foal

Continuing,we walked to Parkend,  passing through the picturesque gardens of the local B & B. in a very long crocodile.
Moving on the next stop was  Fellside .There we had lunch......
before going up and across part of  Calbeck Moor
.,eventually turning homeward Via Hesket Newmarket ...
and the woodland path to 'Waters Meet'. Crossing the bridge at the river Cald Beck, took us out of the National Park.....
and on to the final stretch alongside the river, back to the village and a lovely cup of tea at the Oddfellows Arms.

"A" walk led by The Dynamic Duo aka John and Mike set off from the lovely village of Hesketh Newmarket......

...heading for Carrock Fell..
...dodging kamikase parachutists...
...and, after Tony had unwisely slipped into a stream, up into the gloom...
...steeply up....
....to get to the summit.

After some discussion...

...we dropped down to into the brightness for lunch and as the sun came out, we could see Carrock Fell behind us.
Then marching along the broad ridge

....to gain the summit of High Pike...

Reading problems for some,

backpack problems for others!

...then dropping down until Caldbeck loomed out of the haze...

Learning from his earlier wetting,

Tony takes the bridge

A bridge too far for Sue?

...and so as not to arrive at the pub too early,  other groups please note , added a loop  and entered Caldbeck on virtually non existant paths

"B" walk led by Roger and Sue went in the opposite direction to "C" walk, climbing higher up Cadbeck moor......
.crossing the bridge at watersmeet first.

Then up  on to the moor for lunch...

....dodging flocks of ravenous sheep!
On up the side of the fell
before dropping down through the bracken....
...passing the ruined bobbin mill...
...and into the picturesque village of Caldbeck
